What surprised you most about Struthers?

OK so I'm a teacher here and Poverty rate is 7.0%, which is pretty low. Median household income is $51,894, which feels on the lower side for the area. Homes are going for about $92,800 on average. Rent is about $845/month for a decent place. You can expect to pay around $845 for rent here. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The suburbs are where most families end up. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. The city has invested a lot in new development.

Pros:
- Affordable cost of living
- Friendly people
- Nice parks and trails
- Easy commute

Cons:
- Limited public transit
- Lack of diversity
- Few job opportunities in some fields
- Poor road conditions
- Chain restaurants dominate
Looking forward to hearing from you all. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. The city has invested a lot in new development. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The suburbs are where most families end up. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. The food scene here is surprisingly good. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods.

Bought a house here in 2019 and it's exactly what I was looking for. Property values have gone down slightly since then.

As someone who grew up here, it's improved dramatically in recent years. A lot has changed in the past few years though. traffic used to be much affordable but now it's better than expected.

I've lived in Uptown for about 15 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

I have mixed feelings honestly. When I first moved here from Tampa, I was surprised by healthcare. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Decent public transit for the size
- Good internet infrastructure
- The healthcare scene is pretty good

The downsides:
- Rising rent and home prices
- Nightlife is limited

Overall I'd rate it 7/10 for singles. Feel free to reach out with questions..

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 4-bedroom. it exceeded my expectations. Compared to Denver it's underrated.

Bought a house here in 2022 and it was the best decision I ever made. Property values have gone about the same since then.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value cultural scene, you'll love it. The pet-friendliness is genuinely pretty good and I've found I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. My neighborhood (Westside) is wild and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Austin, be prepared for the culture shock. safety is completely different here. And Property taxes are high.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem underrated.

I've been here 14 years and I love the pace of life here. The thing nobody mentions is community vibe. It's established and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the public transit is legit. And if you're into kayaking, this place is solid.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Old Town side vs the The Heights side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, it's not perfect but it works for me. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a teacher, 42, moved here 14 years ago from San Francisco. I've lived in Midtown and Highland, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Friendly community, easy to meet people
2. Strong job market in several industries
3. Affordable housing options
4. The people are generally surprisingly good - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Nightlife is limited
2. Not very walkable outside downtown
3. The community vibe situation is competitive and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Midtown: Great for young professionals. hit or miss vibes, walkable.
- Highland: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from San Francisco, everything felt tough. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are developing. Gas is developing. You can live comfortably on $80K-$120K here.

**Final verdict:**
Feel free to reach out with questions.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.
