I've been here 7 years and it was the best decision I ever made. The thing nobody mentions is weather. It's pricey and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the healthcare is legit. And if you're into surfing, this place is challenging.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Old Town side vs the Riverside side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a writer who relocated here from Tampa about 10 years ago. The main reasons were quality of life and family.
Pros I've experienced:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Decent public transit for the size
- Lots of family-friendly activities
Cons that are real:
- Limited shopping options
- Homeless population growing downtown
Financially, we've found it hit or miss compared to where we came from. Lots of new construction which should help. Groceries are wild, gas is excellent.
Socially, there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Feel free to reach out with questions..
