Hi all, We have two kids and It's a a small town city with about 6,787 people. The median home value here is around $231,000, which is actually reasonable. You can expect to pay around $896 for rent here. With a population of 6,787, Sturtevant is a small town. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Should I be concerned? It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. The suburbs are where most families end up. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. The weather takes some getting used to. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value food scene, you'll love it. The housing market is genuinely excellent and I've found I have mixed feelings honestly. My neighborhood (Midtown) is developing and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Dallas, be prepared for the culture shock. public transit is completely different here. And Not very walkable outside downtown.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 2 years ago from Chicago and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in West. It's underrated for what you get.
Jobs: The market is stable right now, especially in consulting. If you're in consulting you might struggle.
People: Generally challenging. It took about 8 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: pretty good. Tons of options if you like Mexican.
Happy to answer more specific questions..

I'm a nurse and I've found there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The community is pretty good and there's always something going on.

Public transit is decent here. You'll probably need a car for most things. it's exactly what I was looking for.
