The unemployment rate is 3.5%, which is pretty low. It's a a small town city with about 11,395 people. Crime rate is something to consider -Suffern sits at 224.2 per 100K. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. The food scene here is surprisingly good. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. The food scene here is surprisingly good. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. The city has invested a lot in new development. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a accountant who relocated here from Nashville about 7 years ago. The main reasons were retirement and a job opportunity.
Pros I've experienced:
- Good schools in most areas
- Close to major attractions
- Strong sense of community
Cons that are real:
- Urban sprawl is real
- Limited shopping options
Financially, we've found it decent compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are developing, gas is decent.
Socially, it's exactly what I was looking for. Hope this helps!.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem surprisingly good.
I've been here 11 years and I genuinely enjoy living here. The thing nobody mentions is dating scene. It's competitive and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the food scene is legit. And if you're into hiking, this place is decent.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Lakewood side vs the Midtown side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
