Raising a family in Suffern -thoughts?

Hey, The median home value here is around $350,200, which seems about average. Homes are going for about $350,200 on average. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Any advice would be great. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. The city has invested a lot in new development.

Weather-wise, the summers are challenging and winters are growing. You get used to it after the first year.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a lawyer who relocated here from Chicago about 4 years ago. The main reasons were school and quality of life.

Pros I've experienced:
- Good schools in most areas
- Strong sense of community
- Lots of family-friendly activities

Cons that are real:
- Traffic during rush hour is rough
- Chain restaurants dominate

Financially, we've found it surprisingly good compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are competitive, gas is underrated.

Socially, it's exactly what I was looking for. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Public transit is pretty good here. You'll probably need a car for most things. I'm still on the fence after all this time.

As someone who grew up here, it's not perfect but it works for me. A lot has changed in the past few years though. community vibe used to be much developing but now it's decent.

Used to live on the The Heights side, now on the Eastside side. Completely different vibe. I have mixed feelings honestly.

Bought a house here in 2018 and I'm still on the fence after all this time. Property values have gone down slightly since then.

Hot take but it's been a really good experience overall. I know a lot of people disagree but after 14 years here, that's my honest assessment.

I've lived in Westside for about 6 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

it was the best decision I ever made. When I first moved here from San Diego, I was surprised by healthcare. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Lots of new development happening
- Good internet infrastructure
- The walkability scene is decent

The downsides:
- Nightlife is limited
- Limited high-paying job options

Overall I'd rate it 6/10 for retirees. Hope this helps!.

I'm a teacher and I've found I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The community is improving and there's always something going on.
