Couple moving to Suffolk from out of state

Been living here since 2015. Crime rate is something to consider -Suffolk sits at 295.1 per 100K. With a population of 96,638, Suffolk is a smaller city. Average temperature is around 62--F, so the weather is moderate. Rent is about $1,484/month for a decent place. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Property taxes are high but you get good services. What neighborhoods would you suggest? Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that.

Public transit is average here. You'll probably need a car for most things. I genuinely enjoy living here.

Bought a house here in 2018 and it's exactly what I was looking for. Property values have gone up a bit since then.

I've been living here for 13 years and I'd say there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The pet-friendliness is better than expected compared to other places I've lived. Overall Would recommend to anyone considering it..

As someone who grew up here, I'm still on the fence after all this time. A lot has changed in the past few years though. safety used to be much affordable but now it's decent.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 4-bedroom. it's not perfect but it works for me. Compared to LA it's decent.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 3 years ago from Austin and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Lots of new construction which should help. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Oak Park. It's solid for what you get.

Jobs: The market is developing right now, especially in manufacturing. If you're in healthcare you might struggle.

People: Generally better than expected. It took about 6 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: tough. Tons of options if you like sushi.

It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a real estate agent who relocated here from Salt Lake City about 3 years ago. The main reasons were a fresh start and cost of living.

Pros I've experienced:
- Decent public transit for the size
- Four distinct seasons
- Diverse dining options

Cons that are real:
- Nightlife is limited
- Not very walkable outside downtown

Financially, we've found it average compared to where we came from. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. Groceries are competitive, gas is hit or miss.

Socially, it's improved dramatically in recent years. Happy to answer more specific questions..

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want healthcare, then yeah this place is great. But if community vibe matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.
