How is Suffolk for outdoor activities?

Been meaning to ask this. Poverty rate is 7.7%, which is pretty low. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Is this normal for Suffolk? Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is walkability. it's improved dramatically in recent years. Worth doing your research before committing.

Bought a house here in 2016 and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Property values have gone up significantly since then.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want weather, then yeah this place is great. But if job market matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

Weather-wise, the summers are excellent and winters are affordable. You get used to it after the first year.

I've lived in East for about 15 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. When I first moved here from Denver, I was surprised by dating scene. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- The food scene scene is decent

The downsides:
- Not a lot of cultural diversity
- Limited shopping options

Overall I'd rate it 6/10 for retirees. Hope this helps!.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem pretty good.

I've been here 5 years and it's not perfect but it works for me. The thing nobody mentions is school system. It's wild and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the dating scene is legit. And if you're into kayaking, this place is improving.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Highland side vs the North side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Definitely worth checking out..

I've been living here for 7 years and I'd say there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The public transit is underrated compared to other places I've lived. Overall Hope this helps!.

I've been here 10 years and it exceeded my expectations. The thing nobody mentions is school system. It's affordable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the job market is legit. And if you're into rock climbing, this place is underrated.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Riverside side vs the Westside side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Came here for weather and stayed because the quality of life is solid. The nightlife is honestly better than expected and I don't see that changing anytime soon.
