Is Suffolk worth it salary-wise?

Just moved here 16 months ago and You can expect to pay around $1,484 for rent here. The median home value here is around $329,600, which seems about average. The weather takes some getting used to. What would you do?

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 1-bedroom. it's improved dramatically in recent years. Compared to Denver it's challenging.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 1 years ago from Pittsburgh and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Cedar Grove. It's excellent for what you get.

Jobs: The market is stable right now, especially in marketing. If you're in legal you might struggle.

People: Generally solid. It took about 13 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: underrated. Tons of options if you like BBQ.

Happy to answer more specific questions..

I work in engineering here and I have mixed feelings honestly. The job market for my field is challenging. It's not for everyone but it works for us..

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a pharmacist, 50, moved here 6 years ago from Austin. I've lived in Downtown and Springfield, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Cost of living is very reasonable
2. Good schools in most areas
3. Nice parks and green spaces
4. The people are generally excellent - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Limited shopping options
2. Bugs and humidity in summer
3. The nightlife situation is established and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Downtown: Great for couples. better than expected vibes, walkable.
- Springfield: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Austin, everything felt pretty good. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are affordable. Gas is wild. You can live comfortably on $60K-$70K here.

**Final verdict:**
It's not for everyone but it works for us.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

I'm a accountant and I've found I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The community is excellent and there's always something going on.
