Moved here 12 years ago for work. Suffolk has a decent market for young professionals. Income levels are solid here — median is around $90,089. Rent runs about $1,484/month for a typical apartment. The social scene is pretty active with lots of meetups. Would I recommend it? For the right person, definitely..

Respectfully disagree about the cost of living assessment. In my experience, there are good opportunities if you network.

Downtown is overrated and overpriced. The suburbs offer way better value.

Traffic is the worst part honestly. But if you live near work it's fine.

As someone who moved here from Atlanta, I can confirm most of this. The weather surprised me the most.

Good summary. I'd rate it higher personally — maybe 6/10.

The food scene here is seriously underrated. So many great restaurants.

Can confirm the safety issue. But it really depends on the neighborhood. Midtown and Eastside are perfectly safe.

For families, I'd recommend looking at Southside. Schools are rated well and it's quiet.

Rent tip: look for places in January-February. Prices drop and there's more availability.
