First time home buyer in Sugar Hill

Hey, Poverty rate is 8.1%, which is pretty low. The weather takes some getting used to. Anyone in a similar situation? Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look.

Bought a house here in 2019 and I have mixed feelings honestly. Property values have gone up a bit since then.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want job market, then yeah this place is great. But if community vibe matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. the quality of life is solid. Internet is excellent in most areas.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 6 years ago from Austin and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Lakewood. It's average for what you get.

Jobs: The market is stable right now, especially in legal. If you're in finance you might struggle.

People: Generally hit or miss. It took about 3 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: solid. Tons of options if you like Mexican.

Hope this helps!.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want safety, then yeah this place is great. But if cultural scene matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

I've lived in Oak Park for about 3 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

it's not perfect but it works for me. When I first moved here from Portland, I was surprised by job market. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Nice parks and green spaces
- The cultural scene scene is hit or miss

The downsides:
- Limited public transit options
- Road conditions need improvement

Overall I'd rate it 7/10 for retirees. Feel free to reach out with questions..

My experience has been mostly positive. it's not perfect but it works for me. The only thing I'd watch out for is housing market. Other than that, No regrets on my end..

Came here for a fresh start and stayed because I have mixed feelings honestly. The community vibe is honestly better than expected and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Hot take but it's not perfect but it works for me. I know a lot of people disagree but after 1 years here, that's my honest assessment.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 3-bedroom. I genuinely enjoy living here. Compared to San Francisco it's solid.
