Is Sullivan worth it salary-wise?

OK so I'm a teacher here and It's a a small town city with about 6,355 people. The unemployment rate is 3.7%, which is pretty low. The median home value here is around $153,100, which is actually reasonable. The city has invested a lot in new development. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Property taxes are high but you get good services. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. The city has invested a lot in new development. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. The suburbs are where most families end up. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. The city has invested a lot in new development. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. The suburbs are where most families end up. I've lived in Oak Park for about 4 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. When I first moved here from San Diego, I was surprised by traffic. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- The healthcare scene is excellent

The downsides:
- Chain restaurants dominate
- Limited entertainment options

Overall I'd rate it 7/10 for singles. Feel free to reach out with questions..

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a marketing manager, 36, moved here 7 years ago from Raleigh. I've lived in Maple Ridge and Downtown, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Nice parks and green spaces
2. Four distinct seasons
3. Affordable housing options
4. The people are generally solid - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Summers can be brutally hot
2. Rising rent and home prices
3. The pet-friendliness situation is manageable and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Maple Ridge: Great for singles. improving vibes, walkable.
- Downtown: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Raleigh, everything felt decent. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are competitive. Gas is competitive. You can live comfortably on $60K-$120K here.

**Final verdict:**
Hope this helps!. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

My experience has been mostly positive. it's been a really good experience overall. The only thing I'd watch out for is food scene. Other than that, Happy to answer more specific questions..

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want dating scene, then yeah this place is great. But if traffic matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value nightlife, you'll love it. The cost of living is genuinely pretty good and I've found I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. My neighborhood (The Heights) is wild and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from New York, be prepared for the culture shock. safety is completely different here. And Limited public transit options.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in Eastside for 7 years. Moved from Seattle for quality of life. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is hit or miss. We bought in 2019 at k and it's now worth up significantly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 4-bed in a safe area. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable.

**Employment:**
real estate is strong here. finance is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are affordable for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
it's not perfect but it works for me. The outdoor scene is average - we have rivers within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Eastside schools are excellent. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Road conditions need improvement. Far from beaches/mountains. And food scene can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For couples, I'd say this is a 8/10. Would recommend to anyone considering it.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a electrician who relocated here from Charlotte about 11 years ago. The main reasons were a job opportunity and work.

Pros I've experienced:
- Active local events and festivals
- Diverse dining options
- Strong sense of community

Cons that are real:
- Traffic during rush hour is rough
- Homeless population growing downtown

Financially, we've found it underrated compared to where we came from. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. Groceries are affordable, gas is decent.

Socially, it was the best decision I ever made. It's not for everyone but it works for us..

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are challenging, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.
