Living in Sulphur Springs -the reality

Random thought, I grew up here but left for a while. Poverty rate is 12.2%, which is around average. The median home value here is around $188,200, which is actually reasonable. Homes are going for about $188,200 on average. Average temperature is around 65--F, so the weather is moderate. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. The city has invested a lot in new development. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 1 years ago from Tampa and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Meadowbrook. It's solid for what you get.

Jobs: The market is wild right now, especially in government. If you're in education you might struggle.

People: Generally improving. It took about 12 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: tough. Tons of options if you like Mexican.

Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

I've been living here for 6 years and I'd say I love the pace of life here. The cultural scene is better than expected compared to other places I've lived. Overall It's not for everyone but it works for us..
