Longtime lurker here, I grew up here but left for a while. Median household income is $78,621, which feels about average for the area. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are underrated, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

I've been living here for 9 years and I'd say I love the pace of life here. The safety is surprisingly good compared to other places I've lived. Overall No regrets on my end..

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is safety. I genuinely enjoy living here. Worth doing your research before committing.

Weather-wise, the summers are surprisingly good and winters are developing. You get used to it after the first year.

My experience has been mostly positive. it was the best decision I ever made. The only thing I'd watch out for is healthcare. Other than that, Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a real estate agent who relocated here from Portland about 7 years ago. The main reasons were school and retirement.
Pros I've experienced:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Affordable housing options
- Lots of family-friendly activities
Cons that are real:
- Limited public transit options
- Dating scene is rough
Financially, we've found it tough compared to where we came from. The market is competitive but not impossible. Groceries are developing, gas is improving.
Socially, I genuinely enjoy living here. Feel free to reach out with questions..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value nightlife, you'll love it. The healthcare is genuinely average and I've found I'm still on the fence after all this time. My neighborhood (Old Town) is manageable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Raleigh, be prepared for the culture shock. pet-friendliness is completely different here. And Winters are long and cold.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

If you value cost of living, you'll love it. The safety is genuinely excellent and I've found it's exactly what I was looking for. My neighborhood (South) is growing and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Nashville, be prepared for the culture shock. healthcare is completely different here. And Winters are long and cold.
