I've lived in Old Town for about 2 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. When I first moved here from Salt Lake City, I was surprised by community vibe. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Good healthcare facilities
- Good internet infrastructure
- The housing market scene is surprisingly good

The downsides:
- Rising rent and home prices
- Property taxes are high

Overall I'd rate it 6/10 for families. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are pretty good, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 1-bedroom. I love the pace of life here. Compared to Charlotte it's improving.

I work in consulting here and the quality of life is solid. The job market for my field is challenging. Definitely worth checking out..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem better than expected.

I've been here 2 years and it exceeded my expectations. The thing nobody mentions is housing market. It's affordable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the community vibe is legit. And if you're into running, this place is better than expected.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Greenfield side vs the Maple Ridge side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Would recommend to anyone considering it..

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a writer, 35, moved here 14 years ago from Seattle. I've lived in Maple Ridge and Cedar Grove, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Good healthcare facilities
2. Four distinct seasons
3. Lots of family-friendly activities
4. The people are generally decent - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Homeless population growing downtown
2. Bugs and humidity in summer
3. The traffic situation is affordable and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Maple Ridge: Great for retirees. excellent vibes, walkable.
- Cedar Grove: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Seattle, everything felt better than expected. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are wild. Gas is manageable. You can live comfortably on $80K-$130K here.

**Final verdict:**
Give it a chance - it might surprise you.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a physical therapist who relocated here from Charlotte about 13 years ago. The main reasons were family and family.

Pros I've experienced:
- Lots of new development happening
- Four distinct seasons
- Strong sense of community

Cons that are real:
- Limited shopping options
- Homeless population growing downtown

Financially, we've found it improving compared to where we came from. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. Groceries are stable, gas is surprisingly good.

Socially, it's improved dramatically in recent years. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

I've lived in Springfield for about 9 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

it's not perfect but it works for me. When I first moved here from New York, I was surprised by walkability. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Nice parks and green spaces
- The dating scene scene is surprisingly good

The downsides:
- Urban sprawl is real
- Limited entertainment options

Overall I'd rate it 6/10 for singles. Happy to answer more specific questions..

Bought a house here in 2019 and the quality of life is solid. Property values have gone up significantly since then.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a writer who relocated here from Nashville about 10 years ago. The main reasons were retirement and cost of living.

Pros I've experienced:
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Good healthcare facilities
- Good airport with direct flights

Cons that are real:
- Limited public transit options
- Homeless population growing downtown

Financially, we've found it decent compared to where we came from. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. Groceries are manageable, gas is average.

Socially, there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Happy to answer more specific questions..
