Remote worker thinking about Sumner

Hello, You can expect to pay around $598 for rent here. The suburbs are where most families end up. Am I overthinking this? Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Night life is decent if you know the right spots.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a chef, 58, moved here 15 years ago from Minneapolis. I've lived in Midtown and Cedar Grove, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Affordable housing options
2. Strong sense of community
3. Lots of family-friendly activities
4. The people are generally hit or miss - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Nightlife is limited
2. Not very walkable outside downtown
3. The cultural scene situation is growing and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Midtown: Great for singles. hit or miss vibes, walkable.
- Cedar Grove: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Minneapolis, everything felt underrated. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are manageable. Gas is developing. You can live comfortably on $60K-$110K here.

**Final verdict:**
Hope this helps!. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, it exceeded my expectations. Hope this helps!.
