Housing in Sunbury compared to Portland

Hello, Born and raised here. The unemployment rate is 3.6%, which is pretty low. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Is this normal for Sunbury? It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The city has invested a lot in new development.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 7 years ago from Phoenix and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Fairview. It's decent for what you get.

Jobs: The market is competitive right now, especially in education. If you're in engineering you might struggle.

People: Generally decent. It took about 7 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: better than expected. Tons of options if you like Mediterranean.

No regrets on my end..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem solid.

I've been here 2 years and it's been a really good experience overall. The thing nobody mentions is traffic. It's stable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the healthcare is legit. And if you're into surfing, this place is solid.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Pine Hills side vs the Eastside side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Hope this helps!.

I've been here 9 years and it's improved dramatically in recent years. The thing nobody mentions is traffic. It's competitive and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the pet-friendliness is legit. And if you're into mountain biking, this place is pretty good.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The South side vs the Meadowbrook side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Would recommend to anyone considering it..

I've been living here for 9 years and I'd say I have mixed feelings honestly. The traffic is challenging compared to other places I've lived. Overall Feel free to reach out with questions..

Came here for a job opportunity and stayed because the quality of life is solid. The safety is honestly improving and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem better than expected.

I've been here 2 years and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The thing nobody mentions is cultural scene. It's manageable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the walkability is legit. And if you're into surfing, this place is pretty good.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Sunset side vs the Fairview side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Happy to answer more specific questions..

Hot take but I love the pace of life here. I know a lot of people disagree but after 15 years here, that's my honest assessment.

Came here for cost of living and stayed because it was the best decision I ever made. The housing market is honestly hit or miss and I don't see that changing anytime soon.
