Longtime lurker here, I'm a teacher here and Median household income is $24,479, which feels on the lower side for the area. Rent is about $427/month for a decent place. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Let me know your thoughts.

I work in construction here and there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The job market for my field is surprisingly good. Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value safety, you'll love it. The school system is genuinely hit or miss and I've found I genuinely enjoy living here. My neighborhood (East) is developing and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from LA, be prepared for the culture shock. job market is completely different here. And Not very walkable outside downtown.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Used to live on the The Heights side, now on the West side. Completely different vibe. it's been a really good experience overall.

I've been living here for 4 years and I'd say the quality of life is solid. The walkability is surprisingly good compared to other places I've lived. Overall Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Hot take but I love the pace of life here. I know a lot of people disagree but after 1 years here, that's my honest assessment.

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. it was the best decision I ever made. Internet is average in most areas.
