As a 8-year resident, here are some things about Sunnyvale that don't make it into the guides:
1. There are amazing hiking trails 20 min from downtown
2. Several hidden gem restaurants that rival big city food
3. Cost of living is way better than people think
Give it a chance if you're considering it!
