Remote worker thinking about Sunnyvale

Hey, Poverty rate is 3.4%, which is pretty low. Median household income is $181,862, which feels pretty solid for the area. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Is this normal for Sunnyvale? People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. It's changing fast — some good, some not so much. The suburbs are where most families end up. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. The city has invested a lot in new development. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. It's changing fast — some good, some not so much.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem solid.

I've been here 2 years and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The thing nobody mentions is healthcare. It's growing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the safety is legit. And if you're into kayaking, this place is tough.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Fairview side vs the Cedar Grove side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Happy to answer more specific questions..

As someone who grew up here, it's not perfect but it works for me. A lot has changed in the past few years though. dating scene used to be much developing but now it's decent.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value safety, you'll love it. The public transit is genuinely decent and I've found I genuinely enjoy living here. My neighborhood (North) is pricey and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Atlanta, be prepared for the culture shock. pet-friendliness is completely different here. And Not very walkable outside downtown.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.
