Is Sunset worth it salary-wise?

Longtime lurker here, I work in automotive and The unemployment rate is 1.5%, which is pretty low. Average temperature is around 77--F, so it's warm year-round. The median home value here is around $537,500, which is pretty steep. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. The weather takes some getting used to. What are your go-to spots? Thanks in advance! Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The suburbs are where most families end up.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem decent.

I've been here 8 years and it's been a really good experience overall. The thing nobody mentions is cultural scene. It's growing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the housing market is legit. And if you're into camping, this place is pretty good.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Riverside side vs the North side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Good luck with whatever you decide..

Bought a house here in 2023 and I'm still on the fence after all this time. Property values have gone down slightly since then.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem average.

I've been here 6 years and it's improved dramatically in recent years. The thing nobody mentions is job market. It's established and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the walkability is legit. And if you're into camping, this place is challenging.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Meadowbrook side vs the Highland side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Hope this helps!.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a physical therapist, 49, moved here 4 years ago from San Francisco. I've lived in The Heights and Springfield, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Growing food and restaurant scene
2. Good healthcare facilities
3. Four distinct seasons
4. The people are generally challenging - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Road conditions need improvement
2. Limited entertainment options
3. The school system situation is pricey and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- The Heights: Great for remote workers. challenging vibes, walkable.
- Springfield: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from San Francisco, everything felt surprisingly good. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are wild. Gas is reasonable. You can live comfortably on $60K-$150K here.

**Final verdict:**
Would recommend to anyone considering it.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.
