Moving to Superior with kids -good idea?

Hey, Crime rate is something to consider -Superior sits at 75.4 per 100K. With a population of 13,136, Superior is a small town. The city has invested a lot in new development. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Would love some local perspective.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in Downtown for 2 years. Moved from Salt Lake City for family. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is pretty good. We bought in 2016 at k and it's now worth down slightly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 1-bed in a safe area. Older homes are where the value is.

**Employment:**
legal is strong here. retail is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are established for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
it's exactly what I was looking for. The outdoor scene is improving - we have mountains within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Downtown schools are underrated. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Winters are long and cold. Property taxes are high. And public transit can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For couples, I'd say this is a 6/10. Good luck with whatever you decide.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

Used to live on the Oak Park side, now on the Cedar Grove side. Completely different vibe. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now.

I'm a HR manager and I've found there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The community is pretty good and there's always something going on.

Came here for cost of living and stayed because there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The public transit is honestly better than expected and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Happy to answer more specific questions..

Bought a house here in 2022 and I have mixed feelings honestly. Property values have gone about the same since then.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a HR manager who relocated here from Denver about 7 years ago. The main reasons were family and work.

Pros I've experienced:
- Decent public transit for the size
- Four distinct seasons
- Strong sense of community

Cons that are real:
- Urban sprawl is real
- Limited high-paying job options

Financially, we've found it improving compared to where we came from. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. Groceries are wild, gas is underrated.

Socially, I have mixed feelings honestly. Would recommend to anyone considering it..

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a electrician, 58, moved here 9 years ago from San Francisco. I've lived in South and Cedar Grove, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Friendly community, easy to meet people
2. Decent public transit for the size
3. Active local events and festivals
4. The people are generally better than expected - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Rising rent and home prices
2. Limited shopping options
3. The healthcare situation is reasonable and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- South: Great for families. hit or miss vibes, walkable.
- Cedar Grove: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from San Francisco, everything felt decent. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are affordable. Gas is reasonable. You can live comfortably on $80K-$140K here.

**Final verdict:**
Give it a chance - it might surprise you.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.
