Hot take but I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. I know a lot of people disagree but after 12 years here, that's my honest assessment.

I work in engineering here and it's been a really good experience overall. The job market for my field is challenging. Good luck with whatever you decide..

Moved here from Denver about 12 years ago. I have mixed feelings honestly. Still getting used to walkability but No regrets on my end..

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. it exceeded my expectations. Internet is underrated in most areas.

I'm a pharmacist and I've found it's exactly what I was looking for. The community is hit or miss and there's always something going on.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 13 years ago from Nashville and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Oak Park. It's underrated for what you get.

Jobs: The market is stable right now, especially in education. If you're in real estate you might struggle.

People: Generally better than expected. It took about 18 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: decent. Tons of options if you like Vietnamese.

Good luck with whatever you decide..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem tough.

I've been here 13 years and it's improved dramatically in recent years. The thing nobody mentions is cultural scene. It's manageable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the food scene is legit. And if you're into biking, this place is decent.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Eastside side vs the Uptown side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Would recommend to anyone considering it..
