Honest thoughts on life in Syracuse

OK so I'm retired and Household incomes average around $132,459 in Syracuse. The unemployment rate is 0.8%, which is pretty low. The median home value here is around $531,600, which is pretty steep. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The suburbs are where most families end up. Is this normal for Syracuse? It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The weather takes some getting used to. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. I'd say it's better for families than young singles.

Came here for cost of living and stayed because there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The cultural scene is honestly underrated and I don't see that changing anytime soon.
