Curious what people think. Born and raised here. Poverty rate is 7.8%, which is pretty low. Household incomes average around $50,769 in Taft Southwest. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The weather takes some getting used to. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Would love some local perspective. Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value food scene, you'll love it. The housing market is genuinely challenging and I've found I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. My neighborhood (Highland) is manageable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from New York, be prepared for the culture shock. public transit is completely different here. And Property taxes are high.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

I've lived in Oak Park for about 4 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

it's been a really good experience overall. When I first moved here from Seattle, I was surprised by school system. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Good healthcare facilities
- The traffic scene is excellent

The downsides:
- Urban sprawl is real
- Can feel isolated

Overall I'd rate it 9/10 for remote workers. Happy to answer more specific questions..

Used to live on the Maple Ridge side, now on the Downtown side. Completely different vibe. I love the pace of life here.

As someone who grew up here, I'm still on the fence after all this time. A lot has changed in the past few years though. nightlife used to be much developing but now it's surprisingly good.
