Freelancing from Talladega -experience?

The unemployment rate is 5.7%, which is about average. Homes are going for about $116,600 on average. With a population of 15,041, Talladega is a small town. Median household income is $46,820, which feels on the lower side for the area. Average temperature is around 61--F, so the weather is moderate. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The suburbs are where most families end up. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Let me know your thoughts. Weather-wise, the summers are pretty good and winters are wild. You get used to it after the first year.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value pet-friendliness, you'll love it. The food scene is genuinely solid and I've found it's exactly what I was looking for. My neighborhood (Riverside) is manageable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Salt Lake City, be prepared for the culture shock. school system is completely different here. And Property taxes are high.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Bought a house here in 2016 and I genuinely enjoy living here. Property values have gone up a bit since then.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 2 years ago from Baltimore and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Lots of new construction which should help. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Highland. It's decent for what you get.

Jobs: The market is affordable right now, especially in tech. If you're in consulting you might struggle.

People: Generally improving. It took about 6 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: surprisingly good. Tons of options if you like Mediterranean.

Give it a chance - it might surprise you..
