Been living here since 2022. The unemployment rate is 2.4%, which is pretty low. Median household income is $44,803, which feels on the lower side for the area. Rent is about $935/month for a decent place. The median home value here is around $78,500, which is actually reasonable. The food scene here is surprisingly good. The weather takes some getting used to. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Worth the trade-offs? The city has invested a lot in new development. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. The food scene here is surprisingly good. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are challenging, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 5 years ago from Portland and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Older homes are where the value is. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Riverside. It's challenging for what you get.
Jobs: The market is competitive right now, especially in government. If you're in finance you might struggle.
People: Generally solid. It took about 8 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: average. Tons of options if you like Mediterranean.
It's not for everyone but it works for us..

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a pharmacist, 42, moved here 15 years ago from Phoenix. I've lived in Sunset and Westside, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Good healthcare facilities
2. Good airport with direct flights
3. Strong sense of community
4. The people are generally challenging - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Dating scene is rough
2. Limited entertainment options
3. The outdoor recreation situation is stable and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Sunset: Great for remote workers. excellent vibes, walkable.
- Westside: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Phoenix, everything felt decent. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are affordable. Gas is affordable. You can live comfortably on $40K-$110K here.
**Final verdict:**
Definitely worth checking out.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is safety. it's not perfect but it works for me. Worth doing your research before committing.

I've been living here for 6 years and I'd say I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The cultural scene is tough compared to other places I've lived. Overall No regrets on my end..
