Not sure if this has been asked before, but I'm a 36-year-old mechanic and Rent is about $915/month for a decent place. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. The food scene here is surprisingly good. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly.

I've lived in Sunset for about 11 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
it's not perfect but it works for me. When I first moved here from San Francisco, I was surprised by community vibe. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Strong job market in several industries
- Close to major attractions
- The traffic scene is improving
The downsides:
- Limited public transit options
- Property taxes are high
Overall I'd rate it 5/10 for singles. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Public transit is average here. You'll probably need a car for most things. it's not perfect but it works for me.
