First post here. I'm originally from San Diego and Homes are going for about $155,500 on average. The unemployment rate is 1.2%, which is pretty low. You can expect to pay around $698 for rent here. It's a a small town city with about 10,705 people. Median household income is $49,386, which feels on the lower side for the area. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The food scene here is surprisingly good. The city has invested a lot in new development. What would you do? Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value pet-friendliness, you'll love it. The healthcare is genuinely tough and I've found I genuinely enjoy living here. My neighborhood (Downtown) is stable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Pittsburgh, be prepared for the culture shock. dating scene is completely different here. And Not a lot of cultural diversity.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Hot take but I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. I know a lot of people disagree but after 2 years here, that's my honest assessment.

Weather-wise, the summers are surprisingly good and winters are developing. You get used to it after the first year.

I've lived in Maple Ridge for about 3 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
I'm still on the fence after all this time. When I first moved here from Austin, I was surprised by safety. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Lots of new development happening
- Diverse dining options
- The traffic scene is surprisingly good
The downsides:
- Urban sprawl is real
- Limited entertainment options
Overall I'd rate it 5/10 for families. No regrets on my end..
