What's it really like living in Tarrytown?

Curious what people think. The unemployment rate is 3.1%, which is pretty low. It's a a small town city with about 11,752 people. Crime rate is something to consider -Tarrytown sits at 485.5 per 100K. The city has invested a lot in new development. Property taxes are high but you get good services. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Let me know your thoughts. Thanks! The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 13 years ago from Dallas and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Older homes are where the value is. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in Riverside. It's decent for what you get.

Jobs: The market is developing right now, especially in healthcare. If you're in retail you might struggle.

People: Generally pretty good. It took about 6 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: hit or miss. Tons of options if you like Korean.

Feel free to reach out with questions..

Came here for a job opportunity and stayed because the quality of life is solid. The community vibe is honestly decent and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want safety, then yeah this place is great. But if outdoor recreation matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in Oak Park for 5 years. Moved from Austin for work. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is excellent. We bought in 2020 at k and it's now worth up a bit than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 2-bed in a safe area. Lots of new construction which should help.

**Employment:**
finance is strong here. education is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are affordable for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
it's not perfect but it works for me. The outdoor scene is hit or miss - we have hiking trails within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Oak Park schools are average. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Urban sprawl is real. Road conditions need improvement. And outdoor recreation can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For singles, I'd say this is a 7/10. Hope this helps!. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.
