Random thought, I grew up here but left for a while. Poverty rate is 9.7%, which is pretty low. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Is this normal for Taunton? Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are solid, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

I've lived in Cedar Grove for about 14 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. When I first moved here from Seattle, I was surprised by weather. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Good internet infrastructure
- The traffic scene is excellent
The downsides:
- Rising rent and home prices
- Nightlife is limited
Overall I'd rate it 7/10 for retirees. Would recommend to anyone considering it..
