Cost of living reality check -Taunton

Not sure if this has been asked before, but Crime rate is something to consider -Taunton sits at 380.5 per 100K. Homes are going for about $388,200 on average. The unemployment rate is 3.8%, which is pretty low. Household incomes average around $79,715 in Taunton. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. The weather takes some getting used to. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting.

Pros:
- Great weather
- Low crime in most areas
- Easy commute
- Walkable downtown
- Active local events

Cons:
- Hot summers
- Limited dining options
- Not enough green space
Is this normal for Taunton? The weather takes some getting used to. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. The weather takes some getting used to. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. The weather takes some getting used to. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a HR manager, 35, moved here 9 years ago from Tampa. I've lived in East and Eastside, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Cost of living is very reasonable
2. Great outdoor activities nearby
3. Lots of new development happening
4. The people are generally better than expected - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Traffic during rush hour is rough
2. Winters are long and cold
3. The healthcare situation is growing and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- East: Great for families. tough vibes, walkable.
- Eastside: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Tampa, everything felt hit or miss. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are growing. Gas is manageable. You can live comfortably on $100K-$140K here.

**Final verdict:**
Good luck with whatever you decide.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

My experience has been mostly positive. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The only thing I'd watch out for is safety. Other than that, Good luck with whatever you decide..
