Pros and cons of Taunton after 1 years

First post here. Born and raised here. The median home value here is around $388,200, which seems about average. Poverty rate is 9.7%, which is pretty low. Homes are going for about $388,200 on average. You can expect to pay around $1,269 for rent here. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse.

Pros:
- Low crime in most areas
- Good schools
- Walkable downtown
- Plenty of shopping options
- Active local events

Cons:
- Traffic can be terrible
- Cold winters
- Mosquitoes and humidity
- Homelessness issues downtown
People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. The weather takes some getting used to. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. The city has invested a lot in new development.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a real estate agent, 33, moved here 9 years ago from Miami. I've lived in Sunset and East, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Great outdoor activities nearby
2. Lots of new development happening
3. Diverse dining options
4. The people are generally solid - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Winters are long and cold
2. Nightlife is limited
3. The traffic situation is manageable and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Sunset: Great for couples. improving vibes, walkable.
- East: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Miami, everything felt excellent. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are stable. Gas is competitive. You can live comfortably on $90K-$140K here.

**Final verdict:**
Feel free to reach out with questions.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are average, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

I work in construction here and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The job market for my field is average. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem better than expected.

I've been here 10 years and I have mixed feelings honestly. The thing nobody mentions is cost of living. It's reasonable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the housing market is legit. And if you're into running, this place is solid.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Westside side vs the Greenfield side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

No regrets on my end..

I've been living here for 5 years and I'd say I love the pace of life here. The dating scene is surprisingly good compared to other places I've lived. Overall Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 15 years ago from Tampa and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Older homes are where the value is. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in Sunset. It's pretty good for what you get.

Jobs: The market is competitive right now, especially in healthcare. If you're in tech you might struggle.

People: Generally challenging. It took about 9 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: pretty good. Tons of options if you like Italian.

Hope this helps!.
