Remote worker thinking about Taunton

Hey folks, The median home value here is around $388,200, which seems about average. Median household income is $79,715, which feels about average for the area. Homes are going for about $388,200 on average. Crime rate is something to consider -Taunton sits at 380.5 per 100K. The unemployment rate is 3.8%, which is pretty low. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. What neighborhoods would you suggest? The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. The suburbs are where most families end up. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The suburbs are where most families end up. The weather takes some getting used to. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. I'm a project manager and I've found I have mixed feelings honestly. The community is hit or miss and there's always something going on.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a accountant, 51, moved here 10 years ago from San Francisco. I've lived in South and Eastside, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Cost of living is very reasonable
2. Great outdoor activities nearby
3. Decent public transit for the size
4. The people are generally decent - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Summers can be brutally hot
2. Nightlife is limited
3. The cultural scene situation is growing and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- South: Great for families. tough vibes, walkable.
- Eastside: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from San Francisco, everything felt underrated. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are pricey. Gas is affordable. You can live comfortably on $100K-$120K here.

**Final verdict:**
Happy to answer more specific questions.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

I've been living here for 7 years and I'd say I genuinely enjoy living here. The healthcare is excellent compared to other places I've lived. Overall Would recommend to anyone considering it..
