Affordable areas near Taylor?

Curious what people think. I'm a 49-year-old physical therapist and Crime rate is something to consider -Taylor sits at 620.5 per 100K. With a population of 62,405, Taylor is a smaller city. Poverty rate is 14.6%, which is around average. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The weather takes some getting used to. What are your go-to spots? There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable.

Bought a house here in 2018 and it's not perfect but it works for me. Property values have gone up significantly since then.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a chef who relocated here from Minneapolis about 7 years ago. The main reasons were a fresh start and school.

Pros I've experienced:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Good schools in most areas
- Nice parks and green spaces

Cons that are real:
- Winters are long and cold
- Bugs and humidity in summer

Financially, we've found it surprisingly good compared to where we came from. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. Groceries are competitive, gas is hit or miss.

Socially, it's improved dramatically in recent years. Hope this helps!.

I work in healthcare here and it's exactly what I was looking for. The job market for my field is surprisingly good. Happy to answer more specific questions..
