I relocated for work and The median home value here is around $141,200, which is actually reasonable. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. What neighborhoods would you suggest? People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a social worker who relocated here from Phoenix about 14 years ago. The main reasons were quality of life and work.
Pros I've experienced:
- Good schools in most areas
- Good airport with direct flights
- Lots of family-friendly activities
Cons that are real:
- Winters are long and cold
- Limited shopping options
Financially, we've found it pretty good compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are manageable, gas is average.
Socially, the quality of life is solid. Good luck with whatever you decide..

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 1-bedroom. it's improved dramatically in recent years. Compared to Miami it's underrated.

I've lived in Fairview for about 1 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
it's exactly what I was looking for. When I first moved here from Raleigh, I was surprised by nightlife. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Good schools in most areas
- Close to major attractions
- The healthcare scene is solid
The downsides:
- Limited high-paying job options
- Property taxes are high
Overall I'd rate it 9/10 for young professionals. It's not for everyone but it works for us..

We moved here with our family and it's been a really good experience overall. Schools in Lakewood area are better than expected. Kids love it here.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value public transit, you'll love it. The safety is genuinely decent and I've found it's improved dramatically in recent years. My neighborhood (Maple Ridge) is developing and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Portland, be prepared for the culture shock. safety is completely different here. And Summers can be brutally hot.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.
