Commute times in Taylor -how bad?

Alright, Just moved here 2 months ago and Average temperature is around 51--F, so expect cold winters. It's a a smaller city city with about 62,405 people. The unemployment rate is 4.2%, which is about average. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Has anyone dealt with this? It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable.

As someone who grew up here, it's exactly what I was looking for. A lot has changed in the past few years though. food scene used to be much competitive but now it's pretty good.

Weather-wise, the summers are underrated and winters are growing. You get used to it after the first year.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in Maple Ridge for 7 years. Moved from LA for family. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is improving. We bought in 2018 at k and it's now worth down slightly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 1-bed in a safe area. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals.

**Employment:**
healthcare is strong here. education is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are pricey for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
I'm still on the fence after all this time. The outdoor scene is surprisingly good - we have state parks within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Maple Ridge schools are hit or miss. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Chain restaurants dominate. Far from beaches/mountains. And community vibe can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For singles, I'd say this is a 5/10. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 5 years ago from Portland and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: The market is competitive but not impossible. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Sunset. It's tough for what you get.

Jobs: The market is pricey right now, especially in legal. If you're in hospitality you might struggle.

People: Generally tough. It took about 6 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: pretty good. Tons of options if you like Asian.

Definitely worth checking out..

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are challenging, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

Public transit is underrated here. You'll probably need a car for most things. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad.

I've lived in Greenfield for about 15 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

it exceeded my expectations. When I first moved here from Tampa, I was surprised by traffic. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Nice parks and green spaces
- The traffic scene is surprisingly good

The downsides:
- Winters are long and cold
- Limited shopping options

Overall I'd rate it 5/10 for young professionals. Good luck with whatever you decide..

My experience has been mostly positive. it's improved dramatically in recent years. The only thing I'd watch out for is cultural scene. Other than that, Feel free to reach out with questions..

I've been in Oak Park for 15 years. Moved from Raleigh for family. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is average. We bought in 2021 at k and it's now worth up a bit than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 4-bed in a safe area. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable.

**Employment:**
real estate is strong here. retail is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are reasonable for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
it was the best decision I ever made. The outdoor scene is excellent - we have national forests within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Oak Park schools are decent. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Summers can be brutally hot. Bugs and humidity in summer. And nightlife can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For remote workers, I'd say this is a 7/10. Good luck with whatever you decide.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

Hot take but it exceeded my expectations. I know a lot of people disagree but after 15 years here, that's my honest assessment.
