What I wish I knew before living in Taylor

Anyone else feel this way? My family moved here when I was a kid. Average temperature is around 51--F, so expect cold winters. It's a a smaller city city with about 62,405 people. The unemployment rate is 4.2%, which is about average. Rent is about $1,036/month for a decent place. Homes are going for about $141,200 on average. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The city has invested a lot in new development. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that.

Pros:
- Close to nature
- Easy commute
- Good healthcare facilities

Cons:
- Limited nightlife
- Sprawl everywhere
- Limited cultural events
What neighborhoods would you suggest? It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The suburbs are where most families end up. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Property taxes are high but you get good services. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value school system, you'll love it. The weather is genuinely decent and I've found it's been a really good experience overall. My neighborhood (Cedar Grove) is developing and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Portland, be prepared for the culture shock. dating scene is completely different here. And Summers can be brutally hot.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a chef who relocated here from Pittsburgh about 7 years ago. The main reasons were school and a job opportunity.

Pros I've experienced:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Affordable housing options

Cons that are real:
- Traffic during rush hour is rough
- Limited high-paying job options

Financially, we've found it underrated compared to where we came from. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. Groceries are reasonable, gas is average.

Socially, I'm still on the fence after all this time. Feel free to reach out with questions..

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a writer, 52, moved here 11 years ago from Raleigh. I've lived in West and Pine Hills, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Friendly community, easy to meet people
2. Strong sense of community
3. Lots of family-friendly activities
4. The people are generally surprisingly good - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Homeless population growing downtown
2. Bugs and humidity in summer
3. The dating scene situation is developing and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- West: Great for young professionals. surprisingly good vibes, walkable.
- Pine Hills: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Raleigh, everything felt solid. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are wild. Gas is manageable. You can live comfortably on $100K-$100K here.

**Final verdict:**
Give it a chance - it might surprise you.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.
