First time home buyer in Taylor

Just moved here 10 months ago and Crime rate is something to consider -Taylor sits at 241.3 per 100K. Average temperature is around 67--F, so the weather is moderate. You can expect to pay around $1,181 for rent here. Homes are going for about $246,800 on average. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Does this match your experience? The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. The city has invested a lot in new development. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. The suburbs are where most families end up. The city has invested a lot in new development.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a software engineer, 53, moved here 9 years ago from Seattle. I've lived in North and Westside, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Good schools in most areas
2. Good internet infrastructure
3. Lots of family-friendly activities
4. The people are generally surprisingly good - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Limited high-paying job options
2. Dating scene is rough
3. The safety situation is developing and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- North: Great for families. solid vibes, walkable.
- Westside: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Seattle, everything felt average. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are manageable. Gas is wild. You can live comfortably on $80K-$80K here.

**Final verdict:**
Good luck with whatever you decide.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

I've lived in Meadowbrook for about 10 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

it's improved dramatically in recent years. When I first moved here from Seattle, I was surprised by community vibe. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- The safety scene is improving

The downsides:
- Nightlife is limited
- Homeless population growing downtown

Overall I'd rate it 5/10 for couples. Hope this helps!.
