OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 13 years ago from San Francisco and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Downtown. It's improving for what you get.
Jobs: The market is established right now, especially in government. If you're in retail you might struggle.
People: Generally tough. It took about 6 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: tough. Tons of options if you like Korean.
Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Hot take but I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. I know a lot of people disagree but after 2 years here, that's my honest assessment.

Housing: Older homes are where the value is. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in South. It's solid for what you get.
Jobs: The market is competitive right now, especially in retail. If you're in legal you might struggle.
People: Generally decent. It took about 11 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: excellent. Tons of options if you like seafood.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a software engineer who relocated here from Miami about 1 years ago. The main reasons were school and quality of life.
Pros I've experienced:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Good airport with direct flights
Cons that are real:
- Summers can be brutally hot
- Winters are long and cold
Financially, we've found it tough compared to where we came from. Lots of new construction which should help. Groceries are established, gas is pretty good.
Socially, I genuinely enjoy living here. Would recommend to anyone considering it..
