Is Taylorsville getting better or worse?

Hey folks, Born and raised here. Average temperature is around 56--F, so the weather is moderate. You can expect to pay around $1,432 for rent here. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Would love some local perspective. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 5 years ago from Houston and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in Oak Park. It's pretty good for what you get.

Jobs: The market is established right now, especially in real estate. If you're in marketing you might struggle.

People: Generally average. It took about 16 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: challenging. Tons of options if you like Vietnamese.

I'm a accountant and I've found it's been a really good experience overall. The community is underrated and there's always something going on.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a lawyer, 35, moved here 14 years ago from New York. I've lived in Maple Ridge and Uptown, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Nice parks and green spaces
2. Strong job market in several industries
3. Lots of new development happening
4. The people are generally excellent - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Limited public transit options
2. Can feel isolated
3. The community vibe situation is established and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Maple Ridge: Great for retirees. improving vibes, walkable.
- Uptown: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from New York, everything felt hit or miss. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are developing. Gas is pricey. You can live comfortably on $100K-$120K here.

**Final verdict:**
Happy to answer more specific questions.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

I've been living here for 11 years and I'd say I'm still on the fence after all this time. The housing market is solid compared to other places I've lived. Overall It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Bought a house here in 2019 and it's exactly what I was looking for. Property values have gone up a bit since then.

Public transit is tough here. You'll probably need a car for most things. I'm still on the fence after all this time.

I've lived in The Heights for about 9 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

it was the best decision I ever made. When I first moved here from Minneapolis, I was surprised by food scene. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Good internet infrastructure
- Four distinct seasons
- The cost of living scene is hit or miss

The downsides:
- Nightlife is limited
- Urban sprawl is real

Overall I'd rate it 9/10 for singles. Feel free to reach out with questions..
