Raising a family in Taylorville -thoughts?

Anyone else feel this way? I'm originally from Nashville and The median home value here is around $106,300, which is actually reasonable. Household incomes average around $52,720 in Taylorville. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Let me know your thoughts. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a physical therapist, 42, moved here 9 years ago from Houston. I've lived in Lakewood and West, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Low crime in most neighborhoods
2. Strong job market in several industries
3. Lots of family-friendly activities
4. The people are generally decent - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Traffic during rush hour is rough
2. Far from beaches/mountains
3. The food scene situation is stable and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Lakewood: Great for retirees. improving vibes, walkable.
- West: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Houston, everything felt solid. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are established. Gas is growing. You can live comfortably on $40K-$70K here.

**Final verdict:**
Feel free to reach out with questions.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Public transit is excellent here. You'll probably need a car for most things. I love the pace of life here.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a project manager who relocated here from Salt Lake City about 14 years ago. The main reasons were school and a fresh start.

Pros I've experienced:
- Active local events and festivals
- Strong sense of community
- Lots of family-friendly activities

Cons that are real:
- Limited public transit options
- Homeless population growing downtown

Financially, we've found it pretty good compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are stable, gas is tough.

Socially, it's improved dramatically in recent years. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. it was the best decision I ever made. Internet is average in most areas.
