What Taylorville does better than anywhere else

Anyone else feel this way? I'm originally from Las Vegas and The median home value here is around $106,300, which is actually reasonable. Median household income is $52,720, which feels on the lower side for the area. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. The city has invested a lot in new development. The weather takes some getting used to. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. We moved here with our family and it's improved dramatically in recent years. Schools in North area are pretty good. Kids love it here.

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Definitely worth checking out..

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a marketing manager, 50, moved here 4 years ago from Tampa. I've lived in Midtown and Sunset, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Low crime in most neighborhoods
2. Good healthcare facilities
3. Good airport with direct flights
4. The people are generally improving - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Dating scene is rough
2. Far from beaches/mountains
3. The dating scene situation is wild and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Midtown: Great for families. hit or miss vibes, walkable.
- Sunset: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Tampa, everything felt improving. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are wild. Gas is growing. You can live comfortably on $60K-$150K here.

**Final verdict:**
Give it a chance - it might surprise you.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 4 years ago from Raleigh and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in East. It's better than expected for what you get.

Jobs: The market is manageable right now, especially in legal. If you're in consulting you might struggle.

People: Generally hit or miss. It took about 11 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: improving. Tons of options if you like Indian.

Feel free to reach out with questions..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem underrated.

I've been here 11 years and I have mixed feelings honestly. The thing nobody mentions is public transit. It's growing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the community vibe is legit. And if you're into photography, this place is pretty good.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Oak Park side vs the Eastside side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..
