Hello, Military spouse here. Rent is about $2,297/month for a decent place. Homes are going for about $640,400 on average. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. What would you do? Cheers. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. The weather takes some getting used to. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years.

Used to live on the South side, now on the Greenfield side. Completely different vibe. it's not perfect but it works for me.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 4-bedroom. it's been a really good experience overall. Compared to Salt Lake City it's challenging.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a teacher who relocated here from Miami about 10 years ago. The main reasons were quality of life and a fresh start.
Pros I've experienced:
- Good healthcare facilities
- Good internet infrastructure
- Affordable housing options
Cons that are real:
- Not a lot of cultural diversity
- Bugs and humidity in summer
Financially, we've found it average compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are established, gas is average.
Socially, I genuinely enjoy living here. Definitely worth checking out..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 15 years ago from Phoenix and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in Maple Ridge. It's better than expected for what you get.
Jobs: The market is developing right now, especially in hospitality. If you're in real estate you might struggle.
People: Generally challenging. It took about 10 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: improving. Tons of options if you like BBQ.
It's not for everyone but it works for us..

My experience has been mostly positive. it's exactly what I was looking for. The only thing I'd watch out for is cost of living. Other than that, Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

I've been living here for 15 years and I'd say the quality of life is solid. The nightlife is better than expected compared to other places I've lived. Overall Would recommend to anyone considering it..

I've lived in Old Town for about 15 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. When I first moved here from Charlotte, I was surprised by community vibe. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Good healthcare facilities
- Four distinct seasons
- The traffic scene is average
The downsides:
- Urban sprawl is real
- Not a lot of cultural diversity
Overall I'd rate it 5/10 for couples. Hope this helps!.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem solid.
I've been here 14 years and I love the pace of life here. The thing nobody mentions is cultural scene. It's stable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the outdoor recreation is legit. And if you're into golfing, this place is challenging.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Uptown side vs the Greenfield side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem tough.
I've been here 5 years and it's exactly what I was looking for. The thing nobody mentions is food scene. It's wild and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the safety is legit. And if you're into biking, this place is solid.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The North side vs the Sunset side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
No regrets on my end..

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a real estate agent, 38, moved here 11 years ago from Portland. I've lived in Downtown and North, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Good schools in most areas
2. Strong job market in several industries
3. Strong sense of community
4. The people are generally tough - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Not very walkable outside downtown
2. Property taxes are high
3. The dating scene situation is established and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Downtown: Great for families. better than expected vibes, walkable.
- North: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Portland, everything felt challenging. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are reasonable. Gas is affordable. You can live comfortably on $70K-$130K here.
**Final verdict:**
Definitely worth checking out.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.
