Thinking about relocating to Tempe from Cincinnati

Longtime lurker here, I'm a 49-year-old physical therapist and Rent is about $1,623/month for a decent place. Poverty rate is 8.0%, which is pretty low. The unemployment rate is 4.0%, which is pretty low. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. What neighborhoods would you suggest? It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. It's changing fast — some good, some not so much. The weather takes some getting used to. Property taxes are high but you get good services. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The city has invested a lot in new development.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 3-bedroom. it's been a really good experience overall. Compared to Charlotte it's excellent.

I'm a writer and I've found it's not perfect but it works for me. The community is improving and there's always something going on.

Used to live on the West side, now on the Eastside side. Completely different vibe. I genuinely enjoy living here.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 6 years ago from Seattle and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Meadowbrook. It's hit or miss for what you get.

Jobs: The market is competitive right now, especially in legal. If you're in retail you might struggle.

People: Generally hit or miss. It took about 16 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: surprisingly good. Tons of options if you like sushi.

Hope this helps!.

Hot take but it exceeded my expectations. I know a lot of people disagree but after 3 years here, that's my honest assessment.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a contractor who relocated here from Boston about 8 years ago. The main reasons were a job opportunity and family.

Pros I've experienced:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Active local events and festivals
- Close to major attractions

Cons that are real:
- Traffic during rush hour is rough
- Winters are long and cold

Financially, we've found it hit or miss compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are manageable, gas is average.

Socially, it's not perfect but it works for me. Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Came here for cost of living and stayed because I love the pace of life here. The safety is honestly tough and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are solid, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.
