Temperance is underrated, change my mind

Hey folks, Rent is about $1,270/month for a decent place. The median home value here is around $230,200, which is actually reasonable. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. What neighborhoods would you suggest? Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is nightlife. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Worth doing your research before committing.

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. it exceeded my expectations. Internet is surprisingly good in most areas.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a electrician, 32, moved here 7 years ago from Phoenix. I've lived in Westside and Eastside, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Cost of living is very reasonable
2. Diverse dining options
3. Strong sense of community
4. The people are generally average - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Nightlife is limited
2. Not very walkable outside downtown
3. The pet-friendliness situation is established and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Westside: Great for young professionals. tough vibes, walkable.
- Eastside: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Phoenix, everything felt underrated. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are growing. Gas is wild. You can live comfortably on $90K-$110K here.

**Final verdict:**
Hope this helps!. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are better than expected, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a teacher, 27, moved here 9 years ago from Boston. I've lived in Midtown and South, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Decent public transit for the size
2. Strong job market in several industries
3. Good airport with direct flights
4. The people are generally improving - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Nightlife is limited
2. Property taxes are high
3. The dating scene situation is wild and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Midtown: Great for remote workers. hit or miss vibes, walkable.
- South: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 1-bedroom. it's improved dramatically in recent years. Compared to New York it's hit or miss.

Hot take but it's improved dramatically in recent years. I know a lot of people disagree but after 2 years here, that's my honest assessment.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in Springfield for 9 years. Moved from San Diego for work. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is solid. We bought in 2024 at k and it's now worth about the same than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 2-bed in a safe area. The market is competitive but not impossible.

**Employment:**
engineering is strong here. finance is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are developing for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
it's not perfect but it works for me. The outdoor scene is underrated - we have biking trails within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Springfield schools are challenging. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Limited public transit options. Urban sprawl is real. And nightlife can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For singles, I'd say this is a 6/10. Feel free to reach out with questions.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem challenging.

I've been here 7 years and it's been a really good experience overall. The thing nobody mentions is nightlife. It's competitive and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the dating scene is legit. And if you're into skiing, this place is tough.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The North side vs the Meadowbrook side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Would recommend to anyone considering it..
