Random thought, Homes are going for about $974,300 on average. Crime rate is something to consider -Tenafly sits at 6.9 per 100K. Household incomes average around $208,088 in Tenafly. Average temperature is around 56--F, so the weather is moderate. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Would love some local perspective. Looking forward to hearing from you all. The food scene here is surprisingly good. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that.

I work in healthcare here and I'm still on the fence after all this time. The job market for my field is surprisingly good. No regrets on my end..

My experience has been mostly positive. it exceeded my expectations. The only thing I'd watch out for is housing market. Other than that, Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are surprisingly good, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value school system, you'll love it. The cost of living is genuinely pretty good and I've found I'm still on the fence after all this time. My neighborhood (Greenfield) is growing and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Pittsburgh, be prepared for the culture shock. cultural scene is completely different here. And Traffic during rush hour is rough.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 7 years ago from LA and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Lots of new construction which should help. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in Greenfield. It's excellent for what you get.
Jobs: The market is competitive right now, especially in real estate. If you're in retail you might struggle.
People: Generally pretty good. It took about 9 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: excellent. Tons of options if you like Asian.
Feel free to reach out with questions..

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.
I've been in East for 5 years. Moved from Miami for retirement. Here's my honest, detailed take:
**Housing:**
The market right now is surprisingly good. We bought in 2024 at k and it's now worth up significantly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 3-bed in a safe area. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts.
**Employment:**
retail is strong here. consulting is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are affordable for the area.
**Quality of Life:**
I have mixed feelings honestly. The outdoor scene is average - we have ski resorts within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.
**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. East schools are excellent. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.
**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Not very walkable outside downtown. Not a lot of cultural diversity. And cost of living can be frustrating.
**Bottom line:**
For young professionals, I'd say this is a 9/10. Happy to answer more specific questions.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

Bought a house here in 2020 and it's improved dramatically in recent years. Property values have gone up significantly since then.
