Rent vs buy in Terrace Heights -what makes sense?

Been meaning to ask this. We're a young couple and The unemployment rate is 0.9%, which is pretty low. Median household income is $79,525, which feels about average for the area. Crime rate is something to consider -Terrace Heights sits at 26.4 per 100K. Average temperature is around 49--F, so expect cold winters. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look.

Pros:
- Affordable cost of living
- Good schools
- Diverse community
- Walkable downtown
- Good airport connections

Cons:
- Limited cultural events
- Homelessness issues downtown
- Not enough green space
What neighborhoods would you suggest? People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. The suburbs are where most families end up. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Property taxes are high but you get good services. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Weather-wise, the summers are better than expected and winters are stable. You get used to it after the first year.

Bought a house here in 2023 and I have mixed feelings honestly. Property values have gone about the same since then.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem hit or miss.

I've been here 5 years and it's exactly what I was looking for. The thing nobody mentions is cultural scene. It's affordable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the public transit is legit. And if you're into surfing, this place is excellent.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Greenfield side vs the Maple Ridge side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Definitely worth checking out..

Used to live on the Eastside side, now on the South side. Completely different vibe. I have mixed feelings honestly.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a marketing manager, 24, moved here 9 years ago from Charlotte. I've lived in Westside and Highland, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Great outdoor activities nearby
2. Good healthcare facilities
3. Lots of family-friendly activities
4. The people are generally underrated - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Urban sprawl is real
2. Dating scene is rough
3. The traffic situation is growing and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Westside: Great for young professionals. solid vibes, walkable.
- Highland: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Charlotte, everything felt challenging. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are stable. Gas is growing. You can live comfortably on $70K-$120K here.

**Final verdict:**
Definitely worth checking out.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.
