Best neighborhoods in Terre Haute

First post here. I'm single, late 30s, and Median household income is $41,960, which feels on the lower side for the area. With a population of 58,491, Terre Haute is a smaller city. The unemployment rate is 4.2%, which is about average. Homes are going for about $109,500 on average. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Has anyone dealt with this? It's not perfect, but the community is solid. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The weather takes some getting used to.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a teacher who relocated here from Tampa about 9 years ago. The main reasons were work and weather.

Pros I've experienced:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Lots of new development happening

Cons that are real:
- Rising rent and home prices
- Nightlife is limited

Financially, we've found it average compared to where we came from. The market is competitive but not impossible. Groceries are affordable, gas is decent.

Socially, I genuinely enjoy living here. It's not for everyone but it works for us..
