Biggest downsides of living in Terre Haute?

Hey everyone, I'm a remote worker and With a population of 58,491, Terre Haute is a smaller city. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Thanks in advance! Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Property taxes are high but you get good services.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in West for 7 years. Moved from Seattle for cost of living. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is underrated. We bought in 2022 at k and it's now worth up significantly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 4-bed in a safe area. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts.

**Employment:**
engineering is strong here. healthcare is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are growing for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
the quality of life is solid. The outdoor scene is excellent - we have lakes within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. West schools are better than expected. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Limited high-paying job options. Road conditions need improvement. And weather can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For young professionals, I'd say this is a 6/10. No regrets on my end.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

The food scene here is underrated. Tons of great sushi places. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a software engineer who relocated here from Denver about 4 years ago. The main reasons were work and a fresh start.

Pros I've experienced:
- Decent public transit for the size
- Good internet infrastructure
- Affordable housing options

Cons that are real:
- Not very walkable outside downtown
- Homeless population growing downtown

Financially, we've found it surprisingly good compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are pricey, gas is better than expected.

Socially, I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a accountant who relocated here from New York about 15 years ago. The main reasons were quality of life and a job opportunity.

Pros I've experienced:
- Affordable housing options
- Diverse dining options
- Lots of family-friendly activities

Cons that are real:
- Rising rent and home prices
- Far from beaches/mountains

Financially, we've found it pretty good compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are developing, gas is hit or miss.

Socially, the quality of life is solid. Definitely worth checking out..

I've been in Highland for 2 years. Moved from Denver for a job opportunity. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is improving. We bought in 2017 at k and it's now worth down slightly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 3-bed in a safe area. Older homes are where the value is.

**Employment:**
legal is strong here. finance is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are affordable for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
I'm still on the fence after all this time. The outdoor scene is underrated - we have beaches within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Highland schools are tough. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Traffic during rush hour is rough. Property taxes are high. And community vibe can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For couples, I'd say this is a 8/10. Definitely worth checking out.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

We moved here with our family and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Schools in Uptown area are underrated. Kids love it here.
