What Terre Haute does better than anywhere else

Anyone else feel this way? I'm single, late 50s, and Household incomes average around $41,960 in Terre Haute. Crime rate is something to consider -Terre Haute sits at 324.1 per 100K. Homes are going for about $109,500 on average. Rent is about $877/month for a decent place. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. What neighborhoods would you suggest? Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a teacher who relocated here from Salt Lake City about 11 years ago. The main reasons were a job opportunity and work.

Pros I've experienced:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Good airport with direct flights

Cons that are real:
- Not very walkable outside downtown
- Chain restaurants dominate

Financially, we've found it average compared to where we came from. Lots of new construction which should help. Groceries are manageable, gas is improving.

Socially, it exceeded my expectations. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..
